We have an extraordinary history. Founded in 1887 by American Indians, this school was the first state-supported college for American Indians in the nation. It is a remarkable story of a people's passion for learning and their belief that education is the foundation for a better life. From the beginning, the university's purpose was to transform lives through education. We continue pursuing that mission every day.
